Plumbing Design Engineer
Location: Pasadena, CA (Fully On-Site)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | Non-Exempt
Compensation: $44.83 - $66.47 per hour (DOE)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Plumbing Design Engineer to support the planning, design, and execution of small to medium-sized commercial projects. This role requires hands-on design expertise, strong knowledge of building and energy codes, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced design/build environment and demonstrates accountability for design quality and project outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete project planning, coordination, and execution with limited oversight.
- Independently perform conceptual design through construction drawing development for multiple small- to medium-sized standard projects simultaneously.
- Develop conceptual plumbing designs compliant with Building Codes, Energy Codes, and LEED standards.
- Perform plumbing calculations and design/layout of plumbing equipment and systems on assigned projects.
- Design commercial plumbing systems including gas piping, waste and vent systems, domestic water distribution, and kitchen plumbing.
- Engage appropriately with engineering applications and management when making project decisions.
- Proactively communicate and coordinate designs with Project Management, Construction, Service, Controls, and other trade partners.
- Conduct economic and energy analyses to support project decisions.
- Provide field engineering support including trade coordination, scheduling, document management, and troubleshooting as required.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of all design drawings and models.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and project team members.
- Manage time effectively to meet project schedules and task deadlines.
- Oversee and support other design team members on project assignments when requested by management.
- Apply engineering standards and project execution processes consistently.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desirable but not required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with a Design/Build Mechanical Contractor or consulting firm.
- Strong understanding of engineering and design fundamentals.
- Thorough knowledge of plumbing systems and commercial applications.
- Excellent familiarity with Building Codes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required.
Work Schedule
- Non-exempt position, Monday through Friday
- Start time between 7:00-8:00 AM; end time between 4:00-5:00 PM
- One-hour lunch break and two rest breaks daily
